So, after having one too many glasses of wine and a three and a half hour discussion with photographer friends, I came to the realization of why Craig and I love what we do. I’ve tried to explain why we got into photography and our passion for weddings for years now. It was just a few months ago when it became clear, and I’ve been wanting to write a post about it for a while now. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not very tech savvy. I am not a video game player, my 60 year old mother joined Facebook and Twitter before I did, and I only began sending texts about a year ago (just to give a few examples). I’m not passionate about F stops, ISO, megapixels, or any other technical photog jargon…although I have learned about and understand all of these concepts as any good photographer should! But I am passionate about our couples and their wedding days. I get excited when a bride sends us a photo of her dress, or wants to discuss the best locations for flower arrangements. I think I have always been destined for a career like this. Maybe not photographing, but being around people and getting to be a part of special moments in people’s lives. Craig and I were watching the sunset at the most stunning beach I have ever seen (and for a person who was born and raised in Hawaii and who makes a hobby of traveling to tropical destinations this is saying a lot!). I just sat back taking in the view and didn’t even think of picking up my camera–which was locked in the car about a 100 yards away in my attempt to keep it from the sand and humid, salty air. But then a couple walked by and the man bent down on one knee to propose! I sat up quickly, glanced at the table and in my purse wishing I had a camera to capture this moment for this couple. It is in these times that we realize we photograph weddings for the people in the photographs, not necessarily for the art of photography itself. This is the inspiration that pushes us to be the best photographers we can. To continually improve our craft so that we can provide the best possible imagery for these clients that we get to know and love.

I can relate 200% to your post. I myself am an a amateur photographer and I couldn’t give a fig about complicated photog jargon! I just love to record those special moments for the people involved. Thank you for putting my feelings into words…
