Betsy and Macon’s wedding day is one of the weddings we were most excited about this year! You would think it was because they are a gorgeous couple, or the fact that they have amazing families to be around or possibly because of the stunning location. And while all of those were definite perks to this wedding day, we were excited for this one because the events that led up to this amazing wedding are what made it so special.
Betsy and Macon’s wedding almost didn’t happen.
The happy couple met years ago while Betsy was in high school and working at Sugar ‘n’ Spice and Macon was attending Wofford. Nothing really occurred from that first encounter but fast forward a few more years and they meet again on Betsy’s first day of work in a new building- the same building Macon was working in.
Butterflies, meet Stomach.
Yep, from that moment on, things were different. Betsy would get that wonderful nervous/excited feeling every time she ran into Macon and luckily, he felt the same way. He eventually asked her out on their first date and the rest is history. Although, not all of that history was as blissfully happy as they had hoped.
Here comes that “almost didn’t happen” bit.
On July 16, 2010 a truck ran a red light and slammed into Betsy’s car. Her head smacked the side window and she received a closed head injury which, of course, was incredibly serious. Her parents had to move her home for 6 months to care for her once she was finally released from the hospital and she was forced out of work for over two years. She was finally given permission by her doctor to go back to work this past September. She suffers from horrible migraines which she has finally worked down to one a week and during this entire time, Macon has never left her side. He has seen her at her worst and lowest points and has been there to see her out of it. So they, along with their friends and families, had a feeling of overwhelming joy that this day had finally come.
Betsy and Macon chose the very appropriate song “Stand By Me” for their first dance and even though he hates to dance, Macon was once again by Betsy’s side.
They enjoyed an absolutely beautiful wedding day at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet which was a fabulous location! So many beautiful gardens and old trees. They were married in Live Oak Alee (stunning!) and followed with a reception over in the Pegasus garden which featured an amazing fountain and statue of it’s namesake. Just beyond the fountain was where they held their tented reception and celebrated with their loved ones.
No more waiting for Betsy and Macon- it finally happened! And we couldn’t have been more honored to be there to capture it all.
