The Westin Pointset Hotel in Greenville, SC is one of the venues we work in most often. The hotel sits grandly on Main Street in the heart of downtown Greenvilleā¦a jem of a little city. Built in the 1920s, the style and architecture is classic and timeless...two words I use often to describe our style. The grand ballrooms are impressive with their high ceilings, chandeliers, wall sconces, and intricate molding. The Westin Poinsett was also my favorite hotel to stay in before we moved Greenville in 2016. From a photographer standpoint, the hotel rooms are my favorite for getting ready photos. The lighting is beautiful, and it is one of the few hotels that don't have large (ugly) air conditioning registers under the windows. And window light is my favorite way to light getting ready of a bride.
As wedding photographers, we are always trying to think outside the box and create new images in venues we might have shot in 100 times before. That is the case with the above black and white image. I was standing inside the Pointsett ballroom and looked out the window and imagined the view from outside back in through the large arched windows. We asked the happy couple to hold a pose near the window as I ran outside to capture this image. We used our off-camera flash to light the couple. And I just love the glow from the large lanterns on the outside of the hotel that illuminate the brick and moldings. It feels like we are voyeurs, peeking in at a stolen moment between the newlyweds.
