As a wedding photographer, you walk a fine line. I believe that it's important to give clients direction and assistance in photos so that they look at their absolute best. But at the same time we strive to be unobtrusive so that we can capture natural moments, and clients can be themselves and their personalities shine through in the moments captured.
In the photograph above, I had gathered all of our equipment from the church and was hurrying to our car to go to the reception. But I caught a glimpse of the bride and groom walking to their awaiting chauffeur and Rolls-Royce and decided that I had to capture this completely candid moment. I love the way the groom is carrying the train of the bride's dress in his left hand, and you can see his new wedding ring that I'm sure he had not yet gotten used to wearing. The bride tilted her head slightly to the left and you can see her beautiful hairstyle and hairpin under her cathedral length veil. I am drawn through this image...from the newly married couple walking away to the chauffeur donning a black tux, who is watching the couple walk towards his car and anticipating their arrival by preparing to open the door.
Although we are wedding photographers based in Greenville, South Carolina, we often photograph weddings all over the southeast. And this was one of those weddings that took us out of town. Emily and Cole were married in a springtime wedding ceremony in Montgomery, AL.
